OhMyHolly Aces Amateur
Nicole Watson (pictured) was hoping for a clear in the Partridge Jewellers Amateur 1.1m class . . . instead she is heading home on cloud nine with the winners sash after heading home 49 other combinations.
She’s had the nine-year-old Clydie cross for four years, bringing her on from scratch with the help of mum Jill Watson. This season they are on debut in the Dunstan Horsefeeds Amateur Rider Series and loving it. “We won one at the start of the season and have quite a few placings,” said the Taranaki rider. “Today I was just going for a clear but she seemed to tear around there.”
The came home in the one-round speed class in 67.03-seconds, just ahead of runner-up Tessa Silcock (Nelson) and Cracker Xtreme who stopped the clock at 67.58 seconds. Zoe Shore (Ashburton) and Saffron were just a snip behind in third in 67.7 seconds.
“She just tries her guts out for me,” says Nicole. “It is the first time I have been to Takapoto and I feel pretty lucky to take out the first class I am doing. I certainly won’t be selling her!”
